Art of Brooklyn Film Festival Selects Local Short 'Burning Child' for East Coast Premiere

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - May 23, 2016 - PRLog -- The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival is taking advantage of the boom in the Brooklyn arts scene by celebrating short films made locally in the borough, such as 'Burning Child,' a surreal thriller from writer/ director Kelsey S Brewer which premiered at the Blow Up Chicago International Art House Film Festival last year.

'Burning Child' follows a father on the night after his son's death. In his grief, he becomes fixated with the boy's broken wind up doll, and tries desperately to repair it. But more he tries to fix it, the more his world falls apart, forcing him to let go of what he can't live without. Inspired by a story from Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams, 'Burning Child' uses surreal imagery to get inside this grieving father's mind and explore the loss of security, identity, and control felt in the wake of tragic loss.

The film was shot in Crown Heights with a largely Brooklyn-based cast and crew, including writer/ director Kelsey S Brewer.

Founded in 2011 by working artists, the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival is the only international, independent film festival where every selection has a connection to the borough. The 6th Annual AoBFF will take place in Brooklyn Heights, Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Fort Greene and Prospect Lefferts Gardens. See their full schedule at http://www.theartofbrooklyn.org/
