HOUSTON - May 18, 2016 - PRLog -- "Apollo 8: A Christmas Moon," a new nostalgic look-back doc film from filmmaker Kevin Stirling, about the pivotal, historic and decisively successful 1968 mission of Apollo 8, has won the 2016 Special Jury NASA Remi Award at the 49th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.

"Congratulations Kevin Stirling on winning this top award for your documentary short, 'Apollo 8: A Christmas Moon,'" said J. Hunter Todd, Chairman and WorldFest-Houston Founding Director. "It is very difficult to win a Remi at WorldFest, and we are thrilled that your film has won the coveted Special Jury NASA Remi Award."

Audiences will recall the epic flight of Apollo 8, both for its historic achievements and the joy it gave to a war-weary nation in 1968, when three American astronauts (Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot James A. Lovell Jr., and Lunar Module Pilot William A. Anders) joined the pantheon of space explorers, as they became the first humans to leave the Earth's gravitational force, flying to and orbiting the Moon. Still, perhaps even more memorable was the spellbinding televised broadcast to Earth on Christmas Eve, when a captivated global audience watched and listened in awe, as each astronaut read from the Book of Genesis.

"It is an honor for me to win the 2016 Special Jury NASA Remi Award because Apollo 8 changed our worldview forever. From President John F. Kennedy's inspiring words and call to action at Rice University when he declared, 'We choose to go to the Moon,' to the daring and momentous flight of Apollo 8, it is important that we celebrate NASA and the astronauts' accomplishments because they touched our hearts, lifted our spirits and awakened the explorer, adventurer and space traveler in all of us," said Kevin Stirling, the film's producer and director.

"Apollo 8: A Christmas Moon" features spectacular NASA footage, interviews with NASA officials and award-winning journalists who covered NASA during the 1960s: George F. Alexander (Newsweek, LA Times), Mark Bloom (NY Daily News), Hugh W. Harris (Director, NASA Public Affairs), Bob Button (NASA Public Affairs), Victor McElheny (Boston Globe), John Noble Wilford (New York Times) and others.

Stirling also won a 2nd award, the 2016 Silver Remi for a trailer he produced for CLOISTERED: GOD'S WOMEN OF STEEL, a documentary profiling the Poor Clare Nuns at Our Lady of Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama. He has been making independent films since 2009 when he won the Special Jury Award for MOON BEAT, a documentary about the 1960s space race.

Stirling, a director, producer and editor, provides a broad range of film and video services through his production company NCI Film Productions and can be reached for corporate/commercial film/TV projects (domestic & foreign) at info@ncivp.com.
