Three Winners of Wing Hunters College Wing Eating Championships Announced

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - May 17, 2016 - PRLog -- With the College Wing Eating Championships now completed at three Long Island colleges earlier this month where students battled each other in an excite-wing and captivate-wing throwdown to see who would represent their school at the Second Annual NY Best Wings Festival (http://www.nybestwingsfestival.com/) later this year, the three winners have finally been announced! Molloy College (http://www.molloy.edu/)'s Anthony Pedriata, SUNY Old Westbury (https://www.oldwestbury.edu/)'s Jose Gomez, and NYIT (http://www.nyit.edu/old_westbury)'s Tobin George each came out on top- beating out their piers by eating 12 Buffalo Wings from Wing Zone (http://wingzone.com/) the fastest, and will now advance to the main event going up against last year's champ from Molloy, Tom Malinowski!

Having slayed the competition eliminating rivals in three separate heats each, crowds descended upon the campuses at Molloy College April 9th, SUNY Old Westbury May 3rd, and NYIT May 5th to watch Pedriata, Gomez, and George in an all out wing-frenzy not for the faint-of-stomach! Going up against some fierce trash talk-wing and strategies from "the typewriter" to "wishboning", the three titans of chicken put their appetites to the ultimate test and will now advance to New York's wing mecca for a shot at the title and bragging rights if they're crowned this year's champs!

All participants received a free Wing Zone T shirt and a gift basket, which includes ten wings and an order of fries!

At the College Wing Eating Championship at the New York Best Wings Festival later this year, the winner of the final round will  receive a $100 gift certificate to Wing Zone, a special VIP ticket to the NY Best Wings Festival, a first-place trophy for the school to showcase and honor their college champion, and an online feature atBestWingsLI.com andNYBestWingsFestival.com!

The Best Wings origin story is beautiful in its simplicity.  Matt Kourie and Rob Wittman were on a singular quest and mission, and that was to find the very best wings and to tell the world about those discoveries.

The two launched a wing review website, publishing critiques along with links to local wing eateries and more. They did all of the heavy lifting and, well, heavy eating! For their site, Kourie and Wittman, who got their start as teens working at chicken shacks like Pudgie's Famous Chicken and Chicken Delight, respectively, sought out the best wing joints on Long Island after band practice and shows. Then extended the search into Brooklyn, Queens and New York City.

They played hard and ate similarly. "Rob and I have been bandmates and musicians for a long time," Kourie said. "After rehearsals, it was our ritual to go for wings. We were wing lovers and wing nuts, like most people in America." Wittman furthered, "Wings are fun to eat and there is so much you can do with them in different flavors. They are addictive and crave-worthy. We knew we wanted to find the greatest wings and that it was our journey to find the best wings in New York."

That palpable passion for wings spilled over into the festival realm, since it was only a matter of time. The pair started small, with their popular seasonal bash, Wings and Beer Fest, which also featured craft breweries, and worked their way up to their first ever New York Best Wings Festival in June of 2015.

The Festival, geared for the entire family to enjoy, featured some of the premier restaurants in the New York Metropolitan Area whose wings have gained acclaim.  In addition to wing-eating and other food-oriented competitions, including the College Wing Eating Championships, there were amusements, face-painting, craft brewery tastings, Live music and more, which lead up to the main event- the championship bout, where the Official "JudgeWing" Panel served as seasoned judges. That included Kourie and Wittman along with Matt Reynolds, who is director and star of The Great Chicken Wing Hunt; Ryan Hohman, known as the Ultimate Wingman, Bring the Wing's Brian Dempsey, FOX News' Eric Spinato, AAA's Robert Sinclair, National Wing Hunter Brian Dempsey fromBringtheWing.com, Christine Gerani from SpotOn Magazine, and many more!
