NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - May 12, 2016 - PRLog -- Carry Out Cafe & Catering in Newburyport, MA, will host  an exhibition entitled "Clinker-Built Arts by Jason Novak -  Boats and other Journeys" on its Gallery walls during May and June.

"This exhibit reflects our City's maritime heritage as well as our customers' love of being by or on the water," said Paula Simpson, owner of Carry Out Cafe & Catering. "The shapes and carefree colors of Jason's art is perfectly timed for the arrival of the tall ship El Galeon from Andalusia, Spain to the Newburyport harbor on May 25th."

Artist Jason Novak notes that his sea-influenced work is a new process and style of painting that is very satisfying to make. He grew up in Des Moines, attended The University of Utah, and has lived in New York City, London, Argentina, Taiwan, and Spain. In 2012,  Novak moved back to the east coast to live on Plum Island.

"If you have seen the sunrise and sunset from Plum Island, you will understand where my inspiration for colors and nautical life comes from," Novak said, adding that another influence comes Max in his boat from beloved author Maurice Sendak's book 'Where The Wild Things Are.'

Novak's paintings are a mixture of acrylics, oil pastels, charcoals, painter's tape and the occasional use of fire to create a charcoal black. They are a sort of stencil on canvas or wood or other found materials, such as ship lap. His theme of "clinker-built" refers to a method of boat building where the hull planks overlap, a technique developed in northern Europe and used by Norsemen shipbuilders. The artwork offers a mix of colors, emotions, vistas, curves and promotes the idea of dancing to the tune of your own journey.

An avid explorer, Novak enthusiastically embraces many forms of art, including performing music and acting in local theater. " Set Sail!," he urged.  "Any time you are sitting back and curious about where life will take you next, hop on your boat and find out. Chance favors those in motion!"
