BIRCHINGTON, U.K. - May 16, 2016 - PRLog -- Matthew Sharp, the 'extraordinary cellist, virile baritone, compelling actor' widely heralded as 'one of the most exciting musicians of his generation', 'virtuoso of the arts' (The Times) and 'The Renaissance Man' (Classical Music Magazine), is bringing his youth orchestra Revelation Strings to the picturesque Thanet village of St Nicholas-at-Wade on Sunday 22 May.

The orchestra is composed of gifted youngsters from across East Kent, assisted by various musicians of international stature. In fact, some of the members are heading that way themselves - leader Jess Meakin, who will be playing a movement from Mozart's popular 4th violin concerto, already commutes to Spain for her lessons. The varied programme will also include well-known tunes such as Grieg's Holberg Suite, Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Pachelbel's Canon, together with the themes from Thunderbirds and Star Wars, and other tuneful works by Irving Berlin, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky and Vaughan Williams. The baton will be wielded by David Burridge - a graduate of the Royal Marines School of Music at Deal, who went on to become Kent Music Advisor, conducting many local ensembles.

Other solo items will include up-and-coming Broadstairs singer Abigail Cardwell with the Bricusse/Newley song Feeling Good, and Matthew Sharp himself will play in the Ashokan Farewell.

The church is renowned for good acoustics and its ongoing series of charity concerts. Revelation Strings last played there two years ago, and filled the venue. This year it has already hosted Thanet Light Orchestra, with the popular Railway Swing Band next up on Wednesday June 8.

The Revelation Strings concert starts at 6.30 p.m. Tickets are now available - £8 in advance (from St Nicholas post office), £10 on the door, and free entry to those 18 & under. There will be refreshments available, for a donation.

The concert is being sponsored by local publisher Ozaru Books.
