Liberty Cup Rugby tournament heads to Brooklyn, New York and Aviator Sports Center
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - May 11, 2016 - PRLog -- America's breakout sport of rugby heads to Aviator Sports and Event Center on June 11, 2016. The Liberty Cup Rugby tournament is a service rugby tournament featuring military, police, fire, department of defense, and security guards. Fans new and old can enjoy a full day of watching rugby featuring the teams of Chicago Blue, NYPD, NYFD and the featured women's club British Women's Army Rugby traveling from England plus many more from across the country.
The tournament is free for all ages and will offer great entertainment, food and beverage at Aviator Sports and Event Center. Fans can see the rugby games up close and personal and witness the values of friendship, competition, entertainment and respect. While rugby is a very physical and competitive game the comradery among the competitors is unrivaled in sports.
The 2014 Liberty Cup was attended by 8 men's team and 8 women's team in 2014. London Metro Police lifted the Cup in the men's division, while the Gypsy team took home the top merit in the women's competition.
Part of the tournament proceeds go to supporting Army Week. Army Week's mission: To provide quality educational forums, events, and activities to highlight the achievements, sacrifice, and service of those who have worn or currently wear the uniform of the United States Army, and their families. Army Week is based in New York City.

Rugby is currently the fastest growing sport in America and will be featured in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Recently America has seen a significant growth in rugby with the startup of a new professional league, complementing the American Rugby Premiership which features the top 5 teams in the Eastern United States including NYAC and Old Blue of New York.

Aviator Sports and Events Center, located at Floyd Bennett Field (FBF) in Brooklyn, is a premier multi-sport and recreational complex. FBF was NYC's first municipal airport and is part of Gateway National Recreation Area. The Liberty Cup (15s) Rugby tournament is a biennial rugby tournament, played every two years since 2012. This tournament is played to honor our ruggers who have sacrificed for American Liberty relating to the tragedy on 9/11/01. The original tournament was played in 2007 with the New York Police Department and Bragg R.F.C. In 2009 it grew to include the Fire Department of New York and Camp Le Jeune Marine Base.
