Indy 500 Champion Juan Pablo Montoya To Raise Funds for 100 Bicycles for Students in Colombia

The Initiative "100 for 100" will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500 and provide 100 bicycles to students in Colombia

CHICAGO - May 10, 2016 - PRLog -- During the month of May, defending Indy 500 Champion, Juan Pablo Montoya and his foundation, Formula Smiles, have partnered with Postobon and World Bicycle Relief to raise awareness and funds for 100 bicycles for students in Colombia through the Mi Bici Program. The initiative "100 for 100" celebrates the 100th anniversary of Indy 500 race on May 29th and hopes to bring together all Montoya fans and race enthusiasts in support of students in Colombia. To rally his supporters, Juan Pablo Montoya has pledged to match the first 100 bicycles raised with another 100 bicycles with a donation of $14,700.

"The 100th running of the Indy 500 is a very special event. To celebrate this milestone and to add to its significance, I wanted to make an impact off the track. Through my foundation, Formula Smiles, we have partnered with World Bicycle Relief and Postobon to raise funds for 100 bicycles for students in Colombia through the Mi Bici program. I invite everyone to support our efforts to ensure that more Colombian children have fewer obstacles to overcome and they are better equipped to access an education," said Juan Pablo Montoya.

In Colombia and other rural areas in the developing world, distance prevents children from attending school. After walking long distances to school, students are often tired and their academic performance suffers. With a reliable bicycle, student attendance and academic performance improve. The Mi Bici program sponsored by Postobon distributes bicycles to Colombian students with the aim to improve education quality and student performance and contribute to Colombia's development through high impact, innovative solutions. Formula Smiles and Postobon have partnered with World Bicycle Relief to deliver the bicycles; World Bicycle Relief is a global non-profit that builds and distributes specially designed, rugged bicycles to students, health care workers and entrepreneurs in developing countries.
