Follow on Google News | What Nicky Byrne needs to do to win the EurovisionThe Eurovision has always been every bit as much about the show as it has been about the singing, so how you look plays a big part in being successful, and it would seem that the colour you choose to wear on the night can make all the difference - or rather, the lack of colours. Perhaps surprisingly, since the Eurovision started broadcasting in colour (in 1968), singers in black and/or white outfits have won most frequently. A total of 17 Eurovison winners wore black/white, much more than any other winning outfit. While going it alone has been a recipe for success in the last 2 Eurovisions (with a total of 14 winners consisting of a lone singer), using the maximum amount of on-stage performers has been the most successful strategy overall, with 20 winning entries being made up of a 6-person act. Having more people on stage gives viewers more to focus on, making the performance more memorable even if the song itself wasn't all that amazing. Two omens which do appear to be working in Nicky Byrne's favour is that Ireland have won more Eurovision Song Contests than any other nation (7 in total) and English is by far the most popular language for a winning Eurovision song to be sang in, with almost twice as many winners as the next most popular language (French). One challenge which Nicky Byrne will have to overcome is that of running order. 2nd from last has produced the most Eurovision winners (7) and the closing act has the next best win total (6). It is believed that performing late on the bill gives you an advantage as your performance will be fresh in the minds of the audience once the show finishes and it's time to pick up the phone and vote, while those who performed earlier might be forgotten by then. Nicky is on 7th of 18 in his semi-final, so has plenty of work to do in order to make sure that he stands the best possible chance of helping Ireland win a record 8th Eurovision Song Contest. -ends- Littlewoods Ireland sponsor Ireland's televised Eurovision coverage, promoting their re-launced V by Very Range: http://www.littlewoodsireland.ie/ End
