Western Publishing Association Announces 2016 MAGGIE Winners & WPA Awards of Distinction Awards
The Western Publishing Association Recognizes Top Trade, Consumer and Student Publications, Video, Digital Pubs, Websites & Awards of Distinction.
Nearly 300 attendees from all areas of publishing were on hand to honor the "West's Best" in both print and electronic publishing. An enthusiastic audience cheered as winners accepted their awards and later watched the MAGGIE® trademark "Montage of Winners" video at the close of the banquet.
Considered to be the most prestigious award in the publishing industry, the 2016 MAGGIES draws from the 24 states West of the Mississippi River.
"The 65th Annual Western Publishing Association Maggie Awards once again lived up to its billing as we celebrated the amazing and diverse achievements within our industry," said Norb Garrett, President of the WPA and EVP/GM of TEN: The Enthusiast Network. "I always leave this evening more inspired to push boundaries and take creative chances. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners!"
Some of this year's top honors were Emmy, for Best Overall Publication/
Shift Magazine, from San Jose State University, was awarded the MAGGIE for Best Student Publication, along with a $1,000 grant to its journalism/publishing department. See our website for a complete list of winners: www.wpa-online.org.
WPA Awards of Distinction Launch Award
In bestowing the Third Annual WPA Awards of Distinction Launch Award to Michele Carroll of L.A. Lady Magazine, the WPA recognized an individual or team with the passion, investment and entrepreneurial spirit that goes into launching a new media brand.
"Conceived by Michele Carroll, L.A. Lady Magazine through genuine and vulnerable interviews strives to show other young women that the hardships they are facing in their pursuits are normal, and that they are not alone."
WPA Awards of Distinction Leadership Award
In bestowing the Third Annual WPA Awards of Distinction Leadership Award to Samir Husni, Ph.D, the WPA recognized an individual who distinguished himself in the field of media over the past 12 months.
"In an industry where change is rapidly evolving and shifting - and where pundits are constantly predicting the demise or misfortune of the magazine industry, we are forced to continually focus on the next big thing. Dr. Husni understands what the next big thing is, and has been an evangelist for the ever-evolving print publishing environment."
