My first night there they made me feel like family".- JV "My best friend just happen to buy me a spot at the intro to pole dancing class and WOW! Am I glad I went, the teacher was nothing short of A M A Z I N G!" -AW "I can't even begin to say how much I LOVE this dance studio. From someone who has danced at other schools for the majority of my life, this place has made me feel like I'm part of a community - a family - from the day I took my first class. " - KB Former New England Patriots Cheerleader, longtime dancer, and choreographer Michelle Abbruzzese and her husband Tony opened up Work It Dance and Fitness in August 2010 to give the local community their first and only co-ed pole fitness studio. As an 11-year breast cancer survivor, Michelle knows the importance dance and fitness has played in her own life. Even though Michelle continues her battle with this deadly disease, she doesn't stop wanting to do her part to help others maximize their physical well-being; nor does she let it slow her down. "I currently teach 6-8 classes a week including pole dancing, burlesque, body toning, flexibility, as well as cardio classes. When I am not teaching, you can often find me taking Work It classes such as Bellydance, Fusion Dance Fitness, and Afro Caribbean Dance. Keeping strong and healthy has literally saved my life. If I can help even one person to become the healthiest version of themselves, then it was all worth it." It was this motivation that also sparked Michelle to release her two fitness videos, "Dance Yourself Fit (http://www.workitfit.com/ Michelle and Tony recognize exercise is all about boosting one's body and mind. However, the daunting prospect of shelling out hundreds of dollars for membership and dealing with the oft-intimidating environment that comes with most fitness studios are obstacles many fail to overcome. "Just read the sign over the entrance of our studio. (Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends) We truly live by that," states Tony, who is also a Work It Pole Dancing instructor. Instead of being locked into long-term membership contracts, participants have the option taking individual classes at their convenience or signing up for bundle packages. "We want to make exercise something to look forward to again," said Michelle, a native of Bridgeport, CT. who began dancing at age 3, has taught at two of the largest International Pole Expos/Conventions, and performed for 10 professional sports teams ranging from the NFL, AFL, AHL, and CBA. "We will strive to enrich their minds, body, and souls, raise their self-esteem and make them feel highly motivated on a daily basis, all while having fun."
