Follow on Google News | Evangeline Area Council Scout, Morgan Burke Bolinger, Recognized for Earning Every Merit BadgeEagle Scout, Morgan Burke Bolinger, Earned all 142 Boy Scout Merit Badges and was recognized by the Evangeline Area Council at their annual Eagle Scout Recognition Banquet. Burke was also awarded his 22nd Eagle Palm at the event.
By: Troop 158 Burke was also awarded his 22nd Eagle palm and is looking forward to earning his 23rd Eagle palm before he turns 18. The journey to earn all the merit badges began for Burke in 2008 when he attended his first winter camp in Louisiana. Since then he has attended 3-4 winter or summer camps each year, including camps such as Camp Edgewood (LA), Lost Bayou Scout Camp (LA), Camp Strake (TX), Camp Sid Richardson (TX), Camp Woodruff (GA) and Camp Pirtle (TX). Burke also was able to attend five Hornaday Award Weekends offered by Capitol Area Council at Lost Pines Scout Camp (TX). He attended over 24 Merit Badge Days including ones held at the University of Texas, Texas A&M, University of Houston, Northwest University in San Antonio, Merit Badge offering at the BSA Museum in Irving, TX, the 2010 National Jamboree Merit Badge Center, Phoenix District Merit Badge Day in Houston, TX,, a Baptist Church Merit Badge day in Cordova, TN. Three Rivers Council Merit badge Day and LSU Merit badge day. Memorable merit badges according to Burke were the Snow Sports Merit Badge he earned in Red River NM and the Water Sports MB that he earned at Camp Pirtle TX. Also completing the Hiking merit badge while on a RAYADO Trek at Philmont on one of the longest days, with a backpack on was an unforgettable hike. Also earning the SCUBA merit badge at Vortex Springs, FL was a time he will always remember. Burke thanked his leaders, instructors, counselors, teachers and his fellow scouts for supporting him over this seven year journey. He also thanked his parents, Jack and Beth Bolinger for their support and encouragement as he pursued this goal of earning all the BSA merit badges. Burke is already putting some of the skills that he learned to use as a project manager on his FIRST Robotics team, he has used skills he learned in Drafting, Welding, Robotics and Engineering Merit Badges. It was noted that Burke's Eagle Badge is getting crowded with seven silver palms and one bronze palm currently in place. In recognition of his acheivement Burke was given copy of the statue that stands in front of the Boy Scout Museum in Irving, TX and in front of camping headquarters at Philmont Scout Ranch, NM.
