GOLETA, Calif. - April 29, 2016 - PRLog -- The Royal Rancho, a Gaviota oceanfront ranch with more than a quarter-mile of private beach, is on the market for $50 million after decades of ownership by two prominent families.

The 214-acre property also is historically significant as the location where Santa Barbara was first discovered. On Oct. 16, 1542, explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and his crew dropped anchor off the site and made contact with Native Americans from two villages who paddled out to greet them. The crew did not go ashore, but left the following morning after recording for posterity a name for the verdant, serene landscape: Dos Pueblos.

"The incredible private, sandy beach compound rivals most county and state beach parks," said listing agent Kerry Mormann, a REALTORĀ®-Broker Associate with the Montecito office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.

"The multiple buildings at Dos Pueblos include nine guest and employee residences, butler and chauffeur quarters, barns, and other support structures. In addition, an abalone aquaculture operation is located on the site with a permitted recirculating-water pipeline to the Pacific Ocean. This working ranch is like a village, with 50 acres of agriculture, including avocado and cherimoya."

The main residence is the stately, 5,000-square-foot Casa Grande mansion built in the 1920s classic California Spanish style, offering five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. It was built on the personal ranch of Samuel Mosher, founder and owner of Signal Gas & Oil. The ranch was later sold to Rudolf Schulte, a master German watchmaker turned medical technology pioneer and philanthropist.

"With no public access to the ranch or its beach, the estate offers unrivaled privacy off a gated private road," Mormann said. "This is one of the most important oceanfront ranches along the Southern California coast. It is a world-class ranch, in one of last unspoiled areas of the California coast, and the county wants it to stay that way."
