BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - April 29, 2016 - PRLog -- The proliferation in the overall demand for autonomous vehicles is a major factor attributing to the growth of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) market over a decade. ADAS is widely being accepted as a type of technology which enhances a driver's safety and comfort, and offers a luxurious driving experience. The various features in ADAS assist driver to avoid fatal accidents and risk against collision. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), adaptive front lighting, drowsiness monitoring, lane departure warning, night vision, blind-spot detection, traffic assistance, parking assistance, and pedestrian detection, are some of the important features of the ADAS which assist the automobile drivers in all ways to avoid risking of life. It is estimated that around 50.12 million units of vehicles equipped with ADAS are to be shipped in 2016 and these shipments are expected to reach 60.52 million units by 2022.

This high impending growth of ADAS market in the automotive industry is majorly attributed towards the rapid development of the sensors and emerging technologies in the automotive industry. Besides, the cost of sensors has been decreasing drastically from past five years which is attributing to the increasing volume of sensors in the automotive industry. The growing public awareness towards the driver's safety is also an important factor responsible for the exponential growth of the ADAS equipped vehicles. Nowadays, safety has become a major selling point in the automotive market. Consumers are most keen and interested in the safety equipment and driver assistance systems while purchasing vehicle. They give major importance to the systems that reduces the risk of collision. Along with these safety measures, consumers are also interested in the luxury vehicles giving the experience of comfortable and enjoyable ride. Moreover, New Car Assessment Programs (NCAPs) of several nations has imposed stringent automobile safety regulation and ratings for OEMs. To meet the 5-star rating of NCAP, OEMs have to include active safety systems in their new or revamped cars.

Among the various components of ADAS, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) accounts for largest market share in terms of value as well as volume. It is designed to offer comfortable driving irrespective of traffic flow and helps in maintaining appropriate speed and distance to the traffic. ACC systems are competent enough to automatically regulate the speed of a vehicle to match the speed of the vehicle in-front. Besides this, the night vision system is expected to grow at a high compound annual growth rate from 2016 to 2022. Night Vision Systems are mostly offered in top-end models by OEMs and these systems are considered to provide high level active safety in the vehicles.

Sensors and radars are used as the major components in an ADAS semiconductor. These consist of several type of sensors use to detect objects in the way of vehicle and alert the driver accordingly. These include image sensors, infrared sensor, ultrasonic sensor, LiDAR, Short Range Radar (SRR)/ Medium Range Radar (MRR), and Long Range Radar (LRR). Radar sensor are the most preferred sensors in automotive industry due to fact that radar is not as sensitive to non-metal objects as cameras and are generally unaffected by weather. The emitted and reflected microwave signals from objects in front of a vehicle are compared by the radar systems and assist drivers in avoiding the collision/ crash situations. In ADAS, radars are commonly used in adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, and emergency brake assistance systems.

European and North American regions are dominating the ADAS market;however, the geographical analysis of this market unveils that a great potential for growth lies in the Asian countries.  Number of Asian passenger car producers such as Nissan, Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai/Kia has started offering ADAS technology in their newly manufactured models as a mandatory feature. Besides, ADAS market is also flourishing in countries such as the U.S., the U.K., and Germany due to automobile safety and regulatory concerns in these countries. France, Mexico, and Canada are expected to have decent growth in this market.
