Follow on Google News | Online Marketplace for Renting Wedding Decor From Others OpensBy: Lend the Love Those listing items for rent are able to get additional use out of items they used in the past for their own weddings. Those renting items can save time by using items already made and at a reasonable expense for their one time use. Lend the Love was created as a peer to peer rental marketplace as a senior project for its owner. Hope Wittig was a senior at Indiana Wesleyan University when she had the idea after her sister was married and the family had a large number of handmade decor items left over. Peer to peer rental is a concept made famous by AirBnb for home sharing and Uber for transportation. This social sharing is a way for people to make a little income on assets they own and allows those in need to take advantage of lower prices than buying the assets themselves. The Lend the Love marketplace uses a system designed and operated by ShareTribe to list the items, allow communication between the owner and the renter, and to book the rental. How to Rent If a couple is looking to rent items, they can search by filtering to a category for popular wedding themes such as; beach, modern, rustic chic, traditional or vintage. The items are displayed in a grid of pictures with the price, title and a small picture of the owner. For instance, by clicking on 'rustic chic' as a category, one of the items shown is a galvanized LOVE sign with small lights that rents for $10 per weekend. By clicking on the picture, potential renters can see more information such as the dimensions and additional description. There is a link to ask the owner questions or to rent. The owner then confirms the item is available to rent on the selected date and the two parties work out pick up/delivery as needed.
