SEATTLE - April 26, 2016 - PRLog -- The producers of the Webby Award-winning documentary "Sonicsgate: Requiem For A Team" today released a Seattle Arena Research Document in advance of the Seattle City Council's final vote on whether to approve vacating a one block section of Occidental Avenue as part of Chris Hansen's SoDo arena plan.

The Seattle Arena Research Document contains five pages with 86 source citations backing up statements that support the approval of the Occidental Avenue Street Vacation and the Seattle Arena MOU. The Sonicsgate producers sent the document to all nine members of the Seattle City Council this week in advance of the Occidental Avenue Street Vacation vote, which is scheduled for Monday, May 2.

The "Sonicsgate" producers released the following statement:

"In 2009, we released the documentary 'Sonicsgate' for free online to put the entire story in one place, preserve the 41-year legacy of the Seattle SuperSonics, expose the corruption that led to the team's relocation and hold the guilty parties accountable. Now in 2016, we're doing the same thing by releasing this Seattle Arena Research Document to clearly demonstrate the benefits of the Seattle Arena proposal and expose the frailty of opposing arguments. We hope the Seattle City Councilmembers will examine the facts carefully and act on the will of the people by approving the Occidental Avenue Street Vacation. Approval of the street vacation will advance the Seattle Arena MOU to the next phase, which means Seattle will finally have a shovel-ready arena plan in order to begin serious discussions with the NBA and NHL. Arena construction would not begin until a team is secured for Seattle, but this street vacation approval represents an extremely important milestone in the eight-year fight to bring back our Seattle SuperSonics."

About The Film

"Sonicsgate" explores the perfect storm of controversial business dealings and political failures that led to Seattle's 41-year NBA team being ripped away in 2008, along with the Seattle SuperSonics player records and championship history. The film features rare archival footage and exclusive interviews with experts and insiders including Gary Payton, George Karl, Kevin Calabro, Sherman Alexie and Slade Gorton. Following its revolutionary online release in 2009, the two-hour Director's Cut of "Sonicsgate" won the prestigious Webby Award for Best Sports Film in 2010, becoming the focal point in the grassroots movement to preserve the legacy of the SuperSonics and bring the NBA back to Seattle.

In 2012, the producers re-cut the film into a licensed 44-minute version titled "Sonicsgate: Requiem for a Team" that aired nationally on CNBC television in 2012. This version is currently airing on ESPN Classic television and is available digitally via iTunes, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Xbox, PlayStation and VUDU.
