SAN DIEGO - April 26, 2016 - PRLog -- The US Government has announced that Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the twenty-dollar bill. Will this spearhead long overdue changes?

Banknotes can honor art, humanity and history. World currencies have long told compelling stories. Many, themselves, have become works of art. However US dollars address only history, and with a design that dates back more than a century. America abounds with creativity and talent. The Harriet Tubman twenty-dollar bill presents to the Government an exceptional opportunity to support the arts and our artists, to invite public input, and to rebrand the dollar. Will the Treasury Department respond?

Who could be a more appropriate symbol to reawaken American currency? Born enslaved in Maryland in 1820, Harriet Tubman escaped to Philadelphia in 1849. She became a nurse, a Civil War scout, a hallmark of independence. Nicknamed 'Moses' for her leadership, she was the chief "conductor" of the underground railway, a network of safe houses where she guided more than 700 slaves from plantations to freedom.

In 1859 Senator William Seward sold her a small piece of property on the outskirts of Auburn, New York. In 1903, she donated part of her land to the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged opened on that site in 1908. Today it is a National landmark.

Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia in 1913. In 2013 The HARRIET TUBMAN -- UNDERGROUND RAILROAD NATIONAL MONUMENT was established on 11,750 acres in Maryland by Presidential Proclamation.
