NEW YORK - April 22, 2016 - PRLog -- On Earth Day, April 22, 2016, the landmark Paris Agreement to combat climate change around the globe that was reached at the historic 2015 Climate Change Summit will be open to signature, becoming legally binding once 55 countries that account for 55% of global greenhouse emissions commit to actions and investment toward a low-carbon, sustainable future. Long before this pivotal moment on the world stage, there have been eco-responsible individuals such as Monsieur Pierre Fabre, founder of Pierre Fabre, who, driven by his passion for plants, created the very first KLORANE product in 1966, the iconic KLORANE Shampoo with chamomile. Ever since then, KLORANE has evolved as a leading dermo-cosmetic brand, exploring and protecting the plant universe to advance pure, plant-based sustainably-sourced hair care and skin care to the highest level.

Always ahead of the eco-curve, KLORANE has a long-standing legacy of considering respect for the environment key to its core values, striving to minimize their environmental impact at every turn. Since its establishment in 1994, the brand's corporate foundation, the Klorane Institute, has been dedicated to supporting global initiatives to implement KLORANE's exceptional botanical expertise and commitment to protecting the plant universe and biodiversity around the world. One outstanding initiative is the Klorane Institute's support of the "Great Green Wall," a project against desertification in the Sahel region in Senegal, Africa.

It is in the Sahel that KLORANEsources its Desert Date extract for the KLORANE Desert Date range for dry and damaged hair. The Desert Date is collected by hand in remote parts of the Sahel, adhering to the specifications of Pierre Fabre Botanical Expertise®, a rigorous process that ensures availability, traceability and consistent efficacy ofraw materials. The dates are crushed and the pulp is removed by hand on location, thus respecting the surrounding ecosystem. The active is then produced using green chemistry to reduce its eco-toxicity, which results in formulas free of parabens and silicones.

In supporting the "Great Green Wall," the Klorane Institute aims to limit the desertification of the African Saharo-Sahelian zone, a region heavily affected by poverty and emigration since serious droughts struck the area in recent decades. By planting more than 10,000 trees every year, the goal is to create a belt of adapted plant species, including the desert date tree, which will span across the African continent from Dakar to Djibouti over the course of six years. Returning plant life to the area and teaching others about their properties and uses, the "Great Green Wall" not only helps to restore a damaged ecosystem, but will also help to facilitate dally life for local populations and contribute to the sustainable development of the local economy.

The "Great Green Wall" is recognized by UNESCO, through its UNESCO GREEN CITIZENS program, a unique education platform that highlights the achievements of people around the globe, "pathfinders for change," who are actively working on practicing sustainability, with a focus in encouraging education to promote social, environmental and economic progress without depleting the planet's precious natural resources.  As a founding partner of UNESCO GREEN CITIZENS, the Klorane Institute joins forces with UNESCO and SIPA Press to send the inspiring, vital message that everyone can become a "green citizen" and take an active role in working toward a sustainable future without their own communities.

In sponsoring projects around the globe, in countries including Senegal, Greece, Turkey, Portugal and Italy, the Klorane Institute continues its commitment to sharing its botanical passion by focusing on three missions:

·  Protect plant species under threat through several scientific partnerships with an international scope.

·   Explore the plant world's treasures around the globe in order to increase our knowledge and best protect them.

·   Educate the widest audience possible in botanical knowledge, with a particular focus on children.

For KLORANE and the Klorane Institute, every day is a step toward a sustainable future. Every day is Earth Day.
