When a turf dispute leads to the death of a Haitian immigrant named Ishmel Babet, his mother conjures up a spell to bring him back from the grave to exact revenge on those responsible. Recently on Kaleidoscope hosted by legendary Leon Bibb, Mike Berry, who is CEO of Skip Thomas Productions as well as the director and writer of the film announced that fans purchased over 1,000 tickets to the premier within the first 32 days of opening sales. A new show time was added to accommodate demand. "It's not just a movie, it's a movement," proclaimed Berry, "I do this for anyone aspiring to produce something great out of our city. It's 'City Before Self'." The film boasts talent Clifton Powell (Next Friday, Menace to Society, Dream Girls), Omar Gooding (Baby Boy, Smart Guy) and Ohio native Joe Estevez, who is best known for his impressive trail of movie credits and for his family's (Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez) film and television contributions. "Cleveland has the potential of being the next epicenter for film because of its affordability, talent base and resources," says Tina Hobbs COO of Skip Thomas Productions and the film's producer. The company boasts that they can complete all aspects of filmmaking in house which helps them produce quality programs for a fraction of the cost.
