Houston Solar Tour Kicks Off this Weekend Rain or Shine

HOUSTON - April 21, 2016 - PRLog -- The Houston Solar Tour (www.houstonsolartour.com/the-tour/) kicks off this weekend rain or shine.  On Saturday, April 23 from 9-1, come see the tour's only commercial project at Evergreen Commons, featuring integrated energy, water and food retrofits.

GREEN POWER 4 TEXAS recently renovated the assisted living facility with eco-friendly features which help reduce maintenance efforts and energy bills.  Among them are 104 photovoltaic modules with 26 kWp, solar powered attic fans, 20,000+ gallons of rainwater harvesting, and over 25 species of edible plants.

Should there be a repeat of last week's inclement weather, there will still be sights to see.  Rain is captured from the ENERGY STAR certified cool roof and stored in 4 rainwater tanks, both above and below ground.  Web-controlled drip irrigation systems water the 50+ organic fruit trees, providing animals with a Certified Wildlife Habitat and residents with a healthy food source.

With the record setting rainfall the Houston has seen recently, imagine eliminating the water bill by simply catching and saving what falls from the sky.  Then in the hot summer months, offset electricity costs with rooftop solar.  Fossil fuels' biggest secret is out--the warmer the earth gets, the more practical and affordable its alternatives become.  Houston, we have a solution!
