BOSTON - April 19, 2016 - PRLog -- On April 20, 2016, as part of a weeklong celebration of Earth Day, the Environmental Protection Agency will join with Massachusetts environmental officials, RecyclingWorks and the Green Restaurant Association to recognize Café de Boston for two significant accomplishments: First, being a Three Star Certified Green Restaurant by virtue of performing 52 Environment Steps yielding 179 GreenPoints. Second, becoming a new participant in EPA's Food Recovery Challenge Program, making it the first restaurant to join the program in New England. As a new participant, Café de Boston plans to improve upon the 75 tons of food scraps composted in 2015 by an additional 10% in 2016.

This will be achieved with the support of Massachusetts RecycleWorks, a state-sponsored recycling assistance program that helps businesses maximize recycling, reuse and composting opportunities. The collaboration will begin by creating new signage to make it even easier for customers to recycle.

"We are excited to be taking part in the Food Recovery Challenge and to work with Massachusetts RecycleWorks," said Levent Berksan, Owner of Cafe de Boston. "Today it is more important than ever for restaurants to be environmentally responsible. The steps we have already taken to be Three Star Certified by the Green Resatuarnt Association are enhanced by our participation in this very important program"

Delivering remarks at the event will be:

H. Curtis Spalding, Regional Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New England

John Fischer, Branch Chief, Commercial Waste Reduction & Waste Planning,

Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection

John Majercak, President, Center for Eco Technology

Michael Oshman, CEO, Green Restaurant Association

The event will be at 3:00pm, April 20, 2016 at Café de Boston, 75 Federal Street, Boston, MA 02110
