"My father was diagnosed with a terminal condition called Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy. A massive brain bleed and stroke put him in intensive care and, after two brain surgeries to save his life, the left side of his body was paralyzed and his quality of life diminished until he passed away in 2007. He went into the hospital a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and friend and came out a totally different person that we didn't even know. To make things worse, my mother struggled with awful caregivers who came into her home to make life better, but only caused her more stress," Laura said. "I was inspired to open this business because I knew there had to be a better option out there for families like mine - whether you need 24/7 care or just a little help here and there."

Laura launched the business with the help of two empowered women - her mother, Renee Hovenstine-Snyder, who managed her father's care and who will be serving as the company's caregiver trainer and manager, and her administrator, Jill Herb, who cared for her own mother throughout her battle with cancer. Jill has held customer service management and administrative positions over the years - including an administrative position at one of the banks where Laura worked.  Jill is a breast cancer survivor.  She was looking for a meaningful career when she came across Home Helpers.

"I struggle with survivor's guilt and I have spent a lot of time trying to find my purpose in life. When the opportunity to join Home Helpers was brought to my attention, I knew this is where I belong. Being a caregiver is a truly important job, and I understand how a family member can lose their place as a family member and become 'strictly' the caregiver.  I am so fortunate to be in a position where I can make a difference in the lives of people in our community. Making life easier for both our clients and their families is an honor, a blessing and a responsibility I take very seriously," Jill said.

Laura Shrawder-Miles has been in the financial services industry since 1987 and has worked for several commercial banks in the area where she has mostly focused on retail investment programs. In 2005 she left the banking industry and started her own financial services business, Shrawder Financial Services, which she continues to own & operate in Sunbury PA.
