"In our follow-up to our "Open Tombs" project conducted at Valence Cemetery last year we are looking forward to concluding our previous work by performing a general clean-up of the cemetery on May 3rd" states Amanda Walker, Executive Director at Save Our Cemeteries. Ms. Walker continues, "We are asking the general public for dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers to help us in our efforts to preserve this historic cemetery." Saratoga and Danneel Streets in uptown New Orleans, was established in 1867. Once known as City Cemetery before the town of Jefferson City was annexed into New Orleans in 1870, the name was later changed to Valence Cemetery.
