School achieves £3,000 gas savings plus increased heat output with Remeha boilers

WOKINGHAM, U.K. - April 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Remeha Quinta Pro boilers have helped slash gas consumption at Sandbach School in Cheshire by £3,000 in just four months in a win-win solution that reduces the school's carbon footprint, increases the heat output to meet its present-day requirements, and frees significant funds for the benefit of its students.

Founded in 1677 and located at its current Grade II-listed site since 1851, Sandbach School has evolved over the years from a charitable day and boarding school to a boys' grammar school to its present status as one of the first free schools in England with over 1,300 students on roll. Its heating system has undergone a similar transformation since the installation of six Remeha Quinta Pro 115kW boilers in cascade configuration to provide 21st century heating across the extended school buildings.

When over half the existing boilers failed in the two plant rooms at Sandbach School, the main concerns for Headteacher Sarah Burns were to increase the reliability and output of the heating in order to meet current and future demand. Due to the nature of the building, the refurbishment of both plant rooms was required to be completed within the six-week period of the school summer holidays.

Jonathan Scott, Director at TBR 24-7 Ltd, recommended installing four Remeha Quinta Pro 115kW condensing boilers in cascade operation in the plant room serving the main building housing the boys' school, and a further two Remeha Quinta Pro 115kW boilers, again operating in cascade, in the second plant room serving the Maths, English and Science Block.

Operating multiple fully-modulating boilers in cascade configuration is not only a simple and effective solution to fast installation but also offers greater reliability and higher efficiency for maximum energy and carbon savings. The boilers arrive on site in a quality-controlled, pre-assembled wheeled unit for easy connection to the existing system. This helps maintain continuous heat supply while minimising disruption and labour costs. Quality control is improved as all the components arrive from one supplier, which also greatly reduces the possibility of late arrival of parts, an important factor for projects such as this with a tight refurbishment schedule.

Jonathan Scott commented: "We specified Remeha boilers due to the proven reliability and longevity of the products. TBR 24-7 is responsible for the on-going maintenance of the building services at Sandbach School as well as providing engineering services, so it was important for us to use boilers that we could rely on to perform effectively and efficiently. Given the restricted refurbishment schedule, we were also keen to use a rapid, high-quality solution to guarantee completion within the fixed timeframe. Installing the Quinta Pros on cascade proved the perfect time-saving solution for these projects."

TBR carried out a complete rewiring of both plant rooms, adding new pumps, new controls and a full BMS control panel to enable 24/7 monitoring of the site.

With the new Remeha boilers operating efficiently and reliably, the refurbished heating systems at Sandbach School are delivering high-performance heating across the buildings, providing a comfortable, productive learning environment for students and staff alike. The substantial fuel bill savings are all the more impressive given that the school is also benefitting from increased heat output.

Eric Oakes, Estates Manager at Sandbach School said: "We have been wholly delighted with our choice of TBR 24/7 and their specification of the Remeha Quinta Pro boilers to replace our aged boilers and heating plant. It is a fine result, all brought home at a highly competitive cost."

The market-leading Remeha Quinta Pro range of fully modulating condensing boilers offers outputs from 8.9 to 114 kW, high efficiencies of up to 98% GCV and excellent ultra-low NOx emissions for environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient heating and hot water production.
