DRIFFIELD, U.K. - April 19, 2016 - PRLog -- Fantastic Books Publishing and the Yorkshire Wolds Railway join forces to uncover new talent and throw a spotlight on one of the country's most beautiful areas.

The railway opens its 2016 season on Sunday, 1st May at the site at Fimber Halt where visitors can experience cab rides, visit the shop and café, and see the history of the railway and its future plans.

At the opening, the Fantastic Yorkshire Wolds Railway Short Story Competition will be launched by Fantastic Books' CEO, Dan Grubb, and Yorkshire Wolds Railway board member, Richard Dixon. Everyone attending will receive a voucher for a free book and a Yorkshire Wolds Railway memento.

Dan Grubb says, "Our ethos is to help others. We sponsor local sports talent, donate to a carousel of charities and are proud to be associated with the railway and the incredible work they have done in such a short time."

"Our vision is to see the railway grow into a fantastic tourist attraction," says Richard Dixon, "but there is a long way to go and every inch of progress is costly."

The quoted cost is £250,000 per mile of track. Where will the money come from? "We have several fundraising initiatives," Richard says. "We run events and have a Treble the Track campaign. Our army of volunteers donate their skills."

"The short story competition is a new venture for us," Richard says. "We're grateful to Fantastic Books for donating their expertise to help run a successful competition and to ensure a high-quality anthology whose sales will continue to bolster the railway's coffers."

"As with all our competition anthologies," Dan explains, "we recruit professional authors, including from the world of heritage railways, to be published alongside the competition shortlist."

"Anyone can have a go," says Dan. "We would especially welcome entries from railway enthusiasts. We have specific tips on our website to help debut authors get started."

A modest entry fee of £2 provides the prospect of a cash prize and publication alongside heritage railway celebrities. "The prize money has been donated," Richard says, "and with Fantastic Books donating its expertise, every penny will go to the railway."

What about those railway celebrities? Any recognisable names? "I hope so," says Richard, "but I'm saying no more at present."

"We've had one solid acceptance," Dan confirms, "and we're just waiting to hear on a couple of other fronts."

I ask them to keep me posted and they promise I'll be the first to know, which means there's only one phrase on which I can end: Watch this space!
