Veterans court conference to explore military sexual trauma, traumatic brain injury claims

WASHINGTON - On April 14 and 15, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims will host its 13th judicial conference at the Newseum's Knight Conference Center in Washington, D.C. The conference theme is "A New Generation of Veterans, A New Generation of Challenges." More than 300 participants will hear experts analyze emerging legal and medical issues, including those surrounding disabilities that result from sexual trauma suffered in the military and from traumatic brain injury, the signature injury of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Conference participants include veterans law practitioners, members of congressional staffs, federal judges, law students and law professors from across the nation.

"The exchange of ideas and information provided at this conference will improve the level of practice before our court, which can only mean that judges will be able to decide veterans cases more quickly and fairly," said Chief Judge Lawrence B. Hagel.

On April 14, the conference runs from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The April 14 luncheon is closed to the press. On April 15, the conference begins at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 1:30 p.m.

For more information on the judicial conference, visit the court's website at www.uscourts.cavc.gov.

Immediately following the closing of the conference on April 15, the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims Bar Association will conduct a half day continuing legal education program. For more information about this program, please visit the bar association's website at www.cavcbar.net.
