Cornerstone Care Centers to Sponsor Recovery 5k Run in San Francisco to Raise Awareness of Addiction

SAN FRANCISCO - April 10, 2016 - PRLog -- There are reportedly over 50,000 people in San Francisco with five or more years of recovery and just as many who are still struggling with addiction-And yet there are no walks for the cure, no special ribbons to wear, no parades to inspire-until now.

This May, the sober living non-profit Cornerstone Care Centers, Incorporated (CCCI) will be co-sponsoring the Road to Recovery 5K in San Francisco along with several other influential players in the addiction and recovery field. Hosted by the Center for Open Recovery (COR), the run/walk will be held at Crissy Field on May 1, 2016. The purpose of this important and timely event is to offer an opportunity for the Northern California community-and the addiction recovery community at large-to celebrate recovery from addiction and to raise money for those in need.

The board, staff and volunteers at Cornerstone Care Centers are excited to be participating in the event and are looking forward to meeting other recovery advocates. "We feel honored we were asked to help," says Cornerstone Care Centers co-founder Greg Muth. "Although we are a national non-profit, our headquarters are located in the Bay Area of San Francisco-in Half Moon Bay. We always welcome any opportunity that allows us to give back to our local community."

Jim Keenan, the CEO of Cornerstone Care Centers, will also be partaking in the Run. In fact, all 10 members of the CCCI board will be in attendance. "We have board members flying in from around the country for this-as far as Indiana and Maryland," Keenan states. "We believe events like these are important because they help raise awareness that addiction is a serious disease that affects millions. We hope that the Road to Recovery 5K Run will jump-start a conversation about the addiction epidemic and help to lesson the stigma surrounding this debilitating and life-threatening illness."
