Student-led Events Help Transform Lives

Fuel and petrochemical industries' products and jobs improve lifestyles

HOUSTON - April 8, 2016 - PRLog -- University of Houston - Downtown (UHD) marketing students hosted two events on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 to raise awareness of the fuel and petrochemical industries. Over 100 UHD students and nearly a dozen local trade workers attended both events to learn how these industries' products and expected 3.9 million jobs can transform their lives. Fun-filled and educational, both events included free food and giveaways highlighting the industries' products such as Kendra Scott jewelry and plastic Amazon gift cards.

The first event, "Fuel & PET-rechemicals + Impacting Our Lives," featured the industries' everyday products from musical instruments, cosmetics, jewelry, pet toys and more. Over 60 guests learned about the manufacturers of these products and their available positions in engineering, marketing/sales, human resources, supply chain management, accounting to name a few. This event was held in the entrance of the UHD College of Business from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Immediately following was a speaker session featuring Mr. Lonnie Haynes, executive recruiter at Brookwoods Group, in room B110 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Haynes discussed career preparation tips and the high-volume of professional positions that will be available to replace retirees over the next 5 to 10 years. Nearly 40 attendees were eager to learn how to set reasonable expectations and prepare for a professional career now.

"It was exciting to see so many students sharing our enthusiasm about the rewarding career opportunities," said Linzie French, event coordinator with M2M. "Many students were surprised to learn about the various types of products made by fuel and petrochemicals."

The campaign efforts made by the M2M marketing students are supported through the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufactures Collegiate Energy Challenge.
