So Who Am I and What Do Is Digital Marketing Insights?


I'm, Kieran Sukas, the founder of digital marketing insights. I want to unpack digital marketing for you.

Why?

I'm passionate about all things digital. My friends say that I am a bit of a nerd.

I find marketing rewarding. This is because I believe that if you truly want to make money your product is only half the formula to your success. You need to find a way to communicate your product well as well.

Marketing is about linking products with the people that need them. You might have the greatest product in the world, however if it is not successfully marketed then people will not purchase it.. This is what led to me chasing a career in internet marketing.

After finishing university, I worked in a couple of digital agencies. I began to learn about the intricacies of the industry. Ambitious to succeed, I increase my knowledge and taught myself the intricacies of internet marketing. I applied new techniques learnt, and subsequently achieved results.

Harnessing my passion, I rose through the ranks and by 23 years of age I was managing a small agency in the Sydney CBD. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to work with a publicly listed company, as well as several medium sized retailers and professional service providers. This was great experience, but I quickly grew increasingly frustrated with the mysticism that clouded digital marketing. I soon parted ways because I knew there were better ways to conduct business.

Following this, I started to pick up a few consulting jobs in Sydney. It was in doing this that I realised a lot of business owners simply wanted greater clarity in internet marketing.

Technology is sometimes unnecessarily complex. Online marketing certainly falls into this basket. The specifics of what digital marketing professionals do can sometimes be unclear. For some digital marketing professionals this is the intention.

Digital marketing agencies and consultants tend to guard their industry knowledge at great cost because that is how they make money!

Obviously, professionals are professionals. They need to make money form their profession. However, guarding industry knowledge is not the right approach. There is little to gain long term from this approach.

Everyone benefits when the agency-client relationship is more transparent.

I want to offer a new approach to the classic agency-client relationship

I believe that advertising and marketing professionals start with honest intentions. They do want the very best results for their clients. When the marketing campaign is successful the client is happy and more likely stay on.

The glory days of "Mad Men" for advertisers and marketers are over. A decade ago, the average client-agency relationship lasted seven years. Today, this has dwindled to around three and a half years. Progressively, marketing managers and business owners will 'agency shop'. They actively seek for the most value out of their marketing investment. But hey, who wouldn't?

This causes tension.

It's common to see clients push for greater results. Marketing professionals oblige because if they do not then the client will go elsewhere. Today there is no shortage of advertisers out there. There is likely someone that is willing to do the same work for less. However, you can only push this point so far until flaws start to appear.

Only 40% of agencies believe they are fairly compensated, even though 72% of clients think their payments are appropriate.

I'm not writing this article to cry out poor for marketing professionals throughout Australia. Want I want to illustrate to you is how this creates a squeeze. Clients desire spectacular results whilst desiring to decrease their marketing investment.

Perhaps you feel this in your industry too? It's common to want to receive the most from your investment. But eventually corners get cut.

Advertising costs are substantially reduced nowadays through technology such as atomisation. I think this is great because it lets workers focus on more important things rather than focusing on repetitive and mind numbing tasks that are necessary. But even innovation has limits.

Unbound lust for increasing profit will lead business owners to make decisions that will ultimately ruin their company. With greater transparency this can be avoided.

What do I want to achieve?

I want to empower you by giving you tools and knowledge to better market your business. I will do this by sharing my industry knowledge.

I 'm certainly not the first to preach industry best-practice of how to promote yourself or your business on the internet. I won't be the last. But I will have a great idea of what can work for you.
