April 5, 2016 - PRLog -- According to the second edition of Nielsen's Africa Prospects Indicators (API) released on March 2, 2016; a report that ranks African countries according to their attractiveness for investments, Cameroon ranked 6th most attractive country on the continent in terms of investments. The country ranked behind Tanzania, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Zambia and Nigeria, who make up the top most attractive jurisdictions for investors in Africa.

In the report, Cameroon also ranked second in the region for the potential of its distribution networks as well as the numerous available business opportunities in the country.

In the recent years, the Cameroonian Government has made various reforms in the bid to ease the doing business processes for entrepreneurs and investors. Among these include the establishment of a one-stop-shop for business registration as well as exemption from payment of business license tax for newly incorporated companies.

Speaking at the Cameroon Business Forum meeting, Cameroon Minister of Finance Alamine Ousmane Mey said "the Government has evaluated the possible improvements and changes that can be made in order to attract more private investors. This is how for instance we were able to reduce the business start-up process to 48 hours on average, and the time needed to deliver land titles. We have also created approved management centres to support businesses."

Also speaking at the meeting, Christophe Tiencheu, a local fiduciary, stated that the reforms were aimed at promoting and enabling business climate and that the country is keen to attract investment and foster economic growth by creating jobs and boosting exports.

"South African entrepreneurs tend to invest in Southern Africa, as it's a market they are more familiar with. But Cameroon and the other countries in CEMAC - Chad, the Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of Congo - hold pioneering and exciting opportunities for investment. Cameroon also has two official languages - English and French - which makes it easier to do business," added Christophe.

Cameroon is by far one of Africa's best-kept secrets in terms of attractiveness to investments. The investment opportunities abound - from agriculture and forestry, manufacturing and renewable energy to retail developments and an ever-growing consumer market.
