Breaking Construction Records with Largest Tilt Panels Ever Used at New FIU Apartments

DALLAS - April 5, 2016 - PRLog -- A milestone has been reached on the way to the completion of the new residence hall, Bayview, being developed by Servitas on Florida International University's Biscayne Bay Campus. Servitas celebrated the progress after placing sixteen 9-story tall tilt panels, the largest such panels ever used.

When Bayview is complete it will boast more than 200,000 square feet of space including four classrooms and 410 beds in studio, two bedroom and four bedroom apartment configurations. Students can live just steps from both their classes and beautiful Biscayne Bay. With amenities like ocean views, sky lounge, pool and fitness facility Barview will create a residence lifestyle unlike anything else on the FIU campus. The building was designed with students in mind and has the latest building technology along with integration to Florida International University's emergency management system. Servitas and general contractor Facchina broke ground on the high-rise in March 2015, which means the 9-story building will be finished within a 18-month time frame and ready for students to move in August 2016. "Bayview is on schedule, and we are pleased to begin offering residents the opportunity to be among the first people to live in this building located just 150 feet from Biscayne Bay," says Matt Myllykangas, Vice President of Development and Preconstruction for Servitas. Part of this success was due, he said, to the close cooperation with FIU, and, in particular, the group of about 550 construction workers who had been employed on the site in recent months. Since construction of the building began about six months ago, over 2.8 million pounds of reinforcing steel have been used and 150,000 cubic yards of concrete poured.
