SSP Seeks Feedback on Training and Education Needs of Scholarly Publishing Professionals

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - April 5, 2016 - PRLog -- The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) seeks to better understand the changing needs and preferences of professionals involved in scholarly communications as they relate to professional development and continuing education.  All stakeholders in the field are invited to participate in this study by completing a brief survey.

"Scholarly publishing is a dynamic and rapidly changing field," said SSP Executive Director, Melanie Dolechek. "As our industry evolves, so do our training and continuing education needs. Technology, budgets, and time constraints are all factors in how we gain the information and knowledge we need to be successful. Understanding what and how professionals in our industry want to learn is essential to providing top-quality educational resources."

The survey was developed by a cross-functional task force made up of representatives from various SSP committees responsible for shaping the professional development activities offered by SSP. Membership in SSP is not required for participation in the survey, and we encourage you to share this link with any colleagues who may be interested.

"SSP's goal is to develop educational programming and training opportunities that truly reflect the community's needs, helping professionals to gain the knowledge, skills, and contacts they require to meet challenges in their fields and advance in their careers. Your feedback is vital to this effort, said Mary Beth Barilla, SSP Program Committee Co-Chair.

Participants will be asked to share their opinions on topics of interest; preferred formats; skill gaps for employees; factors that impact the decision to register and key objectives for attendance. Interested professionals can participate by visiting: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/programming-pr.

Results of the survey will be summarized and presented to the SSP Board of Directors and other SSP committees, including the Education Committee, to help shape future programming.

The questionnaire will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, and the identity of all participants will remain confidential. Participants may also enter an optional drawing to receive a $50 Amazon gift card.
