Ward 7 Residents Unite to Host Candidates Forum and Straw Poll

WASHINGTON, DC (March 30, 2016) - In a collaborative grassroots effort to bring together residents from every section of the ward, residents of Ward 7 will host a Candidates Forum and Straw Poll on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at H.D. Woodson Senior High School, located at 540 55th Street NE, Washington, DC 20019 from 9am to noon.

The event, hosted by #Ward7United organizers, includes residents from the Deanwood Citizens Association, Hillcrest Community Civic Association, Penn Branch Citizens Civic Association, River Terrace Community Organization. They will be joined by the citywide federation, the DC Citizens Federation Citizens Association.

During the forum, a straw poll will be taken and key data will be released at the conclusion. Both, the forum and straw poll will be live streamed and feature live Twitter feeds of the various organizations, using the hashtag #ward7forum.

The moderator will be Harold T. Fisher of WHUR-FM Radio's The Daily Drum along with two Youth Mayors from the Marion S. Barry, Jr.'s Youth Leadership Institute.

The Board of Elections recently released the official candidate roster for Ward 7 Council of the District of Columbia primary elections on June 14, 2016, and the subsequent general elections on November 8, 2016.

The incumbent Yvette M. Alexander, Delmar Chesley, former mayor Vince Gray, and Grant Thompson, all Democratic candidates, are all vying for the Ward 7 city council seat.

"This is an important election to our ward," writes the #Ward7United organizers. "We all agree that voters will make better decisions when they are presented with all of the options. We want to ensure that we create an opportunity for them to learn what their options are."

The organizers have already started a preliminary poll via Survey Monkey, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Ward7CommunityPoll, to seek out the top areas of concern, which will be tied into questions for each candidate at the forum. The community poll, which will run until the event on April 9, is expected to provide the real time political landscape of Ward 7 as a preface to the candidate forum and straw poll.

As of current, all of the candidates were extended invitations to attend.
