ACEC/MA Announces Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc. as 2016 winner of Gold Engineering

WALTHAM, Mass. - March 30, 2016 - PRLog -- The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. of Waltham, MA as a winner of the 2016 Gold Engineering Excellence Award for their work on the China Pavilion Expo in Milan, Italy.

The 2016 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees MA State Senator Karen Spilka and MA Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack.

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc., with offices throughout the country, including Waltham, received the award for the firm's work on the China Pavilion at the 2015 World Expo in Milan.  The project celebrated the Expo's theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" by focusing on sustainability and the co-existence of nature and city.  Close collaboration and a holistic approach to architecture, engineering and fabrication brought the pavilion to life for its global audience. The structure's 4,000-sq-m undulating roof transitioned from sharp angles on its northern side replicating the urban skyline, to flowing curves on the southern side symbolizing China's rolling landscape.

"They are outstanding examples of how engineers connect communities, provide safe and reliable water and energy, and make our buildings safe and efficient. These outstanding projects are but a few examples of the quality work designed by Massachusetts (and Rhode Island) engineering firms."
