Tri-state Playwright's New Monodrama at Manhattan Rep's 10 Minute Play Contest

New dramedy by playwright Phil Paradis to be showcased in New York

NEW YORK - April 4, 2016 - PRLog -- Playwright Phil Paradis, of Fort Thomas, KY, has another new play going up on the boards at Manhattan Repertory Theatre in New York. Paradis' latest new short play "Mamma's Little Darlings" will be staged as part of Manhattan Rep's 10 Minute Play Contest with eight new short plays on April 5 & 7 at 9 p.m. at Manhattan Repertory Theatre, 303 W. 42nd St. 6th FL, New York, NY.

The eight new one-acts in the 10 Minute Play Contest Series #2 include "Forget Me Not" by Gerry Glennon, "Save The Children" by Tyler Powell, "The Interview" by Joyce Alayon, "Say Goodbye" by Erin Turner, "Lost Values" by Nicole Gray, "Mamma's Little Darlings" by Phil Paradis, "The Friday Night Swim Club" by John DeBenedetto, and "The Ghost of Nowhere" by Billy Bryant.

The Series #2 performances are Wednesday and Friday, April 5 & 7 at 9 pm. Tickets are $20 at the door while supplies last or may be reserved online.

"Mamma's Little Darlings" written by Paradis is directed by Flori Doyle and features Susan King as a lonely old widow who lives with twenty cats. Says Paradis, "This monodrama is a dark comedy about a woman who converses with her cats and unlocks the mystery of his husband's disappearance." Says director Doyle, "Mamma's Little Darlings is a wonderful showcase for an actor since it provides ample opportunities to demonstrate her talents and range." Adds King, "I'm loving my venture into 'touch of insanity' roles."

Actor Susan King, of Westchester, NY has played many roles over the years; her favorites are Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady," Miss Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls," Amanda Wingfield in "The Glass Menagerie," and Sister Amnesia and The Reverend Mother in "Nunsense." More recently she portrayed Nanny in "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds" at Schoolhouse Theatre in Croton Falls, NY, and Madame Arcati in "Blithe Spirit." She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and with Gene Frankel and performs cabaret and concerts. For more, see susankingentertainment.com.

Director Flori C. Doyle, of Cortlandt Manor, NY,  is a Theatre educator and has directed over 50 plays and musicals and teaches acting. A board member with the New York State Theatre Education Association, Doyle has presented many acting and directing workshops, and she has worked as an adjudicator for NYSTEA. Doyle also performs in community and regional theatre and studies at HB Studio.

Playwright Phil Paradis has three plays on New York stages this week. Besides his MAMMA'S LITTLE DARLINGS at Manhattan Repertory Theatre, his one-acts LOVE KNOTS and WHISTLE STOP ROMANCE are being presented a few blocks away April 7-10 at The Producers Club. Paradis is perhaps best known for SOLDIER'S CHRISTMAS about the World War I Christmas Truce of 1914, which premiered at Northern Kentucky University.
