New Work by Oberlin Graduates Highlights Cross Cultural Exchange and Artistic Collaboration

DURHAM, N.C. - March 30, 2016 - PRLog -- As part of the DIDA (Durham Independent Dance Artists) sophomore season, independent artists Jasmine Powell and Brian Bowers will co-direct and co-produce an evening-length performance entitled 'Shadows Chasing Light.' Highlighting themes of artistic collaboration and cross-cultural exchange, this production seeks to explore the ways we universally understand and embody our diverse experiences of love.

The performance installation will usher diverse artists and audiences into a unique creative experience that crosses both cultural and geographic barriers. Powell and Bowers have engaged creatives and independent artists from around the world-commissioning artistic contributions from far-reaching regions such as Brazil, Israel, Canada, India, Jordan, Egypt, and Germany, as well as domestic artists in the United States.

Premiering in Durham, North Carolina, Shadows Chasing Light will bring to life a rich selection of poetry, new music, and spoken word. The two-night performance will include solo and ensemble choreography, live percussion, and original music to be hosted at the PSI Theater-Durham Arts council, on April 21^st and April 22^nd.

Powell (Collage Dance Company, Dance Diaspora/Essence-Oberlin College, Philadelphia Dance Company/Philadanco - D2, Dianne McIntyre, KT Niefhoff, and Milton Myers) brings a rich history of dance, choreography and the visual arts, while Bowers blends a solid background in corporate marketing and business operations, with artistic skills in music composition, vocal performance, and creative writing.

As self-funded independent artists, the initial premier of Shadows Chasing Light is the first step towards furthering their goals of artistic collaboration, cross cultural exchange, and creative economy. The artists have agreed to donate 10% of all proceeds to a designated non-profit and local arts charity in North Carolina.

The campaign goal is to raise $5000 USD which will be utilized to offset operational costs and related expenses incurred during the production.
