By: Deborah Hopkinson Published in April 2016 for the 150th Anniversary of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), A BANDIT'S TALE is a Junior Library Guild selection exploring 19th century New York City immigrant life and social reform movements including the effort to improve conditions for work horses. "Although the subject matter is serious, this is also a fast-paced adventure story with humor and short chapters designed to appeal to young readers," said Hopkinson. DEBORAH HOPKINSON is the award-winning author of many books for children. Her most recent picture book is Beatrix Potter and the Unfortunate Tale of a Borrowed Guinea Pig, published in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter. This spring she will also publish a book about young activists and sea turtles entitled Follow the Moon Home, co-authored with Philippe Cousteau. Her novels Into the Firestorm and The Great Trouble have been featured as Oregon Battle of the Books selections. In 2013, her nonfiction title Titanic: Voices from the Disaster was a Robert F.
