500 Reasons To Run With The Roos

ADELAIDE, Australia - March 28, 2016 - PRLog -- The Kangaroo Island Marathon is one of the most unique and exclusive marathons in the world, due to the stunning remote location and the maximum capacity which is restricted to only 500 runners!

Australian Olympic Marathon runner and Rio 2016 hopeful, Jessica Trengove put her training on hold last week to return home to endorse one of Australia's newest marathon races. For the next two years Trengove will carry the torch for the Kangaroo Island Marathon, acting as the official race ambassador both here in Australia and overseas.

"The rolling hills means this race isn't about fast times, but it's about running amongst the natural beauty of one of Australia's best kept secrets.  What's more Australian than the Kangaroo Island Marathon?" said Trengove. "It's one of the only marathons in the world where you will literally be overtaken by a kangaroo!" she joked.

Trengrove was a bronze medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and has already run an Olympic qualifying time of 2:27.45. She remains confident of being selected for the Rio 2016 Olympic Team, with Athletics Australia set to announce the team soon.  After Rio, she will share her marathon stories with Australian and international runners of all abilities, before the start of the Kangaroo Island Marathon.

"It's a great honour to have Jessica Trengove as our new ambassador. We couldn't be prouder to have a local South Australian heading up this event and we wish her all the best in Rio".

"Our aim is to offer runners an authentic and immersive Australian experience and we already have registrations from the USA, Italy, England, Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand", said Nathan Godfrey, Race Director. "

The inaugural Kangaroo Island Marathon (http://www.kangarooislandmarathon.com/) was held in September last year at Flinders Chase National Park. The race is an exclusive adventure tourism event and the route passes by iconic landmarks such as the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, bordered by native bushland and the great Southern Ocean.

"The success of the event last year, Nathan's vision and commitment to a 10-year plan and the increasing international interest in the Kangaroo Island Marathon, lays a sound foundation for a global event in a unique island setting.  Jessica's involvement as ambassador will only help elevate the marathon's profile", said Pierre Gregor, Chairman, Tourism Kangaroo Island.
