NEW ORLEANS - March 23, 2016 - PRLog -- New Orleans Charter Science & Math High School students are helping create a brighter future for the city through a constructive partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services of New Orleans, Yaya Arts Center, and Evans Playground Booster Club. Together, the groups are in the middle of developing a community engagement kiosk that will focus on building local neighborhoods and improving the lives of the people who live in them. The kiosk will be installed at Evans Playground in Uptown.

To start, students met at the school last week to discuss topics critical to a community's vitality such as what issues their neighborhoods face, what success looks like to them, how we as individuals and together as the United States determine a community's priorities and why we make decisions to save or invest in certain ones. Students then collaborated on the kiosk's design, basing it on the improvements they would like to see in their neighborhoods and the role each of them will play in fulfilling them.

The kiosk, now entering its fabrication stage, will be built this Saturday, March 26th, at the YaYa Arts Center (3322 Lasalle St.) between 9:00 am and noon. Locals are encouraged to visit and to see how our city's youth want to improve the future of our community.

The entire kiosk project is part of Neighborhood Housing Services of New Orleans' 40th-anniversary celebration, "Home is Where the Heart is." As a Neighbor Works America (NW) affiliate, NHS aligns with NW's mission and core values to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
