Steroids Are More Common Then You Think…

SYDNEY - March 23, 2016 - PRLog -- 1 in 3 young men (16-30) seriously consider taking steroids.

Otago University researcher, Joseph Shield, says steroids are becoming increasing popular amongst young Australian men. Young men as young as 16 are reported to have taken performance enhancement drugs to increase their muscle mass, however, the findings from his research suggests that the main reason for young men taking steroids was not to improve their athletic or sporting performances but to improve their physical appearance.

"Young men are becoming increasing self-conscious about how they look and how they are perceived by others. Young men, like young women, seek to be liked, accepted, and to be seen as being attractive within their social circles, and even online. Acquiring a more muscular body enabled young men to feel more masculine, powerful, attractive and confidant."

Steroids are not the only stimulant that young men are taking to increase the size of their muscles. Mr. Shields research also shows young men use restrictive diets, human growth hormones, melanotan (tanning injection), and some even resort to botox and plastic surgery to improve their looks.

His research reflects findings abroad in the U.S.A., U.K, New Zealand and Canada.

It appears that body image concerns are no longer a health issue that only affects young women. Young ozzie men are now feeling the affects of a celebrity and body image driven society.
