The RISD Museum acquires 'The Flower Eaters' by Andrew Paul Woolbright

'The Flowers Eaters' is the first painting of Andrew Paul Woolbright's current, ongoing body of work 'The ShrineBeast Romance'.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - March 22, 2016 - PRLog -- Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to announce that The RISD Museum recently acquired The Flower Eaters, a painting by Andrew Paul Woolbright for its permanent collection. Woolbright received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently works in Beacon, NY, integrating paintings, sculpture, and video into an ongoing project entitled The ShrineBeast Narrative.  Using his wife and himself as subjects within his work, Woolbright has been constructing an expansive mythology that documents their ongoing transformation into moving shrines of love. Using this mythology, he examines love and sentiment and their political and personal relationship to individuals, relationships, narratives, and histories. The acquisition was made possible by a generous gift from a private collection.

Woolbright recently commented on The Flower Eaters:

The Flowers Eaters is the first painting of my current, ongoing body of work The ShrineBeast Romance. In this painting, the two figures (who are representations of my wife and myself) are sitting on their living room couch together when they are struck by a meteor that crashes in through their ceiling. In an instant, they and their surroundings are transformed. The living room couch shifts into a Garden of Eden, and the two of them begin spitting out streams of flower petals. Pearls and ornamentation begin to grow on their activated skin. The meteor, the alien force that signifies the uncontrolled impact of love and sentiment on our identities and bodies, triggers their evolution into moving, living, shrines of love. I am honored and excited to have the work in the permanent collection of the RISD museum, at the institution where I conceived of and made the series I am still working in today.

The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is currently presenting Love Amongst the Amaranth by Andrew Paul Woolbright through April 14. Yellow Peril Gallery will unveil new works from Woolbright at Seattle Art Fair 2016 in August.
