BlackArts Racing takes Double Poles and Win in AFR Pan Delta Season Opener
BAR had a strong opening weekend in Asia Formula Renault with all drivers enjoying success on track in front of over 30,000 spectators and live TV at the Pan Delta Race Festival
The Asia Formula Renault season's first qualifying took place at 9am Saturday morning under a track that had just dried from early morning rains, part of the intermittent weather that had remained over Zhuhai all week. BlackArts Racing's Josh Burdon took pole position for both of the weekend's races by setting the two fastest laptimes in qualifying while formula rookie Pavan Ravishankar of Singapore was as high as 3rd in the laptimes until dropping to 5th in the last two laps. Neric Wei of China moved up to 4th then finished 6th, , with Thomas Luedi of Switzerland placing 9 of the 19 car field.
AFR Round 1:
The first race of the season was held under dry conditions Saturday at 2:40pm, with Australian Josh Burdon leading the first race of the 2016 Asia Formula Renault Championship from start to checkered flag. Thomas Luedi had a fantastic race by charging up the field to finish 5th overall.
AFR Round 2:
At 2:50pm Sunday, the Asia Formula Renault field exited the pit lane for the warm up laps all on slick tires, only to have the skies open during the formation lap. After a race delay that allowed all teams to change to rain tires, 7 cars ultimately DNF'd [Did Not Finish] due to the tricky conditions, unfortunately including Burdon and Luedi. Neric Wei finished just off the podium, only 0.8 seconds behind the P3 car, while Pavan Ravishankar started from the pit lane after sliding off the track on slicks when the rain started during the warm up lap - yet still managed to take 4th fastest laptime. Despite it being only his second AFR race and first time in the rain, the Singapore karting star picked up an amazing ten positions to finish top ten despite starting from pit lane.
The Asia Formula Renault 2016 Championship will continue at the famous Korea International Circuit on May 14-15, with AFR's first visit to the KIC F1 Circuit in South Korea for Rounds 3&4. Visit http://www.BlackArtsRacing.com for team updates or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/
