Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility has seen the light…

Leveraging the SaveOnEnergy program to complete a lighting retrofit.
By: Durham Sustain Ability

WHITBY, Ontario - March 21, 2016 - PRLog -- A lighting retrofit can be a daunting project, not only because of the up-front costs involved but also the work required to get the project done. In 2015, after attending a Durham Partners in Project Green event with Durham Sustain Ability, and hearing about the energy incentive programs available from the SaveOnEnergy program, Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility (Deer Creek) decided they were up for the task.

Vegain Jweda, Deer Creek's Maintenance Supervisor, completed an analysis of the lighting that was used most often both inside and outside their facilities with a specific focus on lighting that was left on 24 hours a day such as in stairwells and emergency lighting. The lighting identified in the analysis was the lighting targeted for the upgrade project.

Once the analysis was complete, Elaine Parrington, Deer Creek's Office Administrator, took on the role of applicant and applied for the SaveOnEnergy program. She was concerned that the application process would be a challenge but found that it was much easier than anticipated.

"Big or small, it is worth it to apply. Don't be intimidated by the application process." Remarked Ms. Parrington during our discussion.  Veridian will also assist every step of the process.

Veridian Connections Inc. (Veridian) was the local distribution company who worked with Deer Creek on this project.  Veridian handled all the details of the project liaising with the Deer Creek staff.

"We were very pleased with the installation process and the support we received from Veridian Connections"… commented Mr. Jweda… "We were also pleasantly surprised that the project came with a 5 year warranty from the contractor AC Lighting, which we have used with no issue."

The initial application was for Deer Creek's primary location on Audley Road in Ajax, but once the project was approved, Veridian helped them extend the project to include two other facilities, Salem Ridge and Glen Cedars. This was a bonus, they did not expect that the other locations would qualify, and were pleased to learn the SaveOnEnergy Program is available to every business out there.

From the minute Deer Creek reached out to Veridian Connections the process took off, from the original discussions, to project completion the process was fast and the customer service was excellent. Thanks to the SaveOnEnergy program and Veridian, Deer Creek was able to save on the initial installation and materials costs, they now have bulbs that will last 10-15 years which will significantly reduce their maintenance costs but most importantly they are reducing their overall energy consumption using more efficient lighting.

Deer Creek recently completed an Eco-Efficiency Assessment as part of their membership in Durham Partners in Project Green, Durham Sustain Ability's member driven business program. They are eager to review the latest assessment to help further their commitment to sustainability and identify new opportunities for conservation and cost savings.
