OrthoWilmington Surgeon Neil MacIntyre Recognized For Excellence In Trauma Care

WILMINGTON, N.C. - March 14, 2016 - PRLog -- Neil R. MacIntyre, MD, a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopaedic trauma surgeon with OrthoWilmington is the 2016 recipient of the Dr. Thomas Clancy Trauma Award. Dr. MacIntyre was recognized at the 27^th Trauma Symposium, held at the Wilmington Convention Center on February 13, 2016.

The Clancy Trauma Award is presented to a leader who "goes above and beyond" in trauma care, explained OrthoWilmington Chief Executive Officer Stephen L. DeBiasi, FACHE, CMPE. "It's a very demanding specialty," said DeBiasi. "Dr. MacIntyre is extraordinarily committed to providing the very best in trauma care, putting in long hours day in and day out."

Orthopaedic trauma involves performing complicated surgeries that involve multiple fractures, compound fractures, pelvic fractures, and fractures near a joint. The specialty also involves restoring the anatomic alignment of the joint surfaces to allow for return to maximum function of the injured body part.

"These cases involve injuries that are very difficult to treat, so patients benefit greatly from his highly specialized care," said DeBiasi.

"As an orthopedic traumatologist, Dr. MacIntyre has enabled NHRMC to provide a high level of expertise in the management of patients from around the region with multiple, life-threatening injuries," said Thomas V. Clancy, MD, who established the award. "He has also kept many patients from having to be airlifted to other trauma centers around the state."

Dr. MacIntyre completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University, his medical degree and residency at Temple University, and his fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, a top hospital for orthopedics. He has practiced in southeastern North Carolina since 2011.
