Follow on Google News | International Women's Week Leaders Form Partnership to Unite Canadian WomenOn International Women's Day 2016, Toronto's Director and Founder of the successful H.U.B. Inc., Mary Morassutti united with Founder of Kingston's Outstanding Women of the Year Awards, Leigh Burton, to expand the voice for women across Canada.
By: H.U.B. Inc. and Soul Intentions Leigh Burton, Founder of the Awards Gala, hosted her annual ceremony that acknowledges exceptional Kingston and Napanee women. Burton's mission with the Outstanding Women of the Year Awards is to honour and support women who play an integral role in their communities. The event was featured on CKWS-TV. (http://www.ckwstv.com/) "Everybody is an integral part of their community somehow," explains Leigh Burton, Producer of the Awards Gala. "And to me, to honour that is important. Each woman is selected not only for being extraordinary, but for being ordinary and for being themselves." Before her new position as Director of H.U.B., Inc., Kingston, Burton made a name for herself by uplifting women in her self-esteem workshops across Greater Napanee and Kingston. Her mission is to express the understanding that "everything starts at home". Burton is now an essential part of an ever-growing link of H.U.B. women who are uniting across the province with the intention of empowering women across Canada, and internationally. This year, the winner of the International Women's Week 2016 Outstanding Women of the Year Award is Early Childhood Educator Elaine Locke, who raised her two children as a single mom. Each year, the Nominees go through a seven-phase process to determine a winner. The winner also gets to decide which charity the proceeds from the event will go to - and this year, Locke chose the Canadian Cancer Society. "I'm absolutely shocked because I really didn't expect this," Locke revealed. "There are a lot of high-profile women hereā¦but I do what I do because I love it. I never expected to be honoured." The partnership means women can expect a more united voice provincially, and eventually nationally, when it comes to women's empowerment and rights. Expecting less cliques and no-nonsense means more will be accomplished, and additional women will be recognized in Canadian communities for their daily achievements and contributions. The leaders strive to deliver a platform that will help women honour themselves and grow in their professional and personal lives. -Lindsay R.
