HealthRight International Appoints New Program Director for Women and Children's Health

 
NEW YORK - March 11, 2016 - PRLog -- HealthRight is pleased to announce that Theresa Castillo, EDD MA, CHES has joined the organization as Director for Women and Children's Health. In this role, she will oversee HealthRight's projects on maternal health, family planning, and vulnerable children.

Theresa brings with her over 20 years of experience in the fields of gender, social justice, and health equity on a global scale. Her expertise includes cultural rights, adolescent health, sexual and reproductive health, violence prevention, and community development among vulnerable populations. Working throughout Asia, Africa, and North America, she has collaborated with various non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, and Ministries of Health to build local capacity and to strengthen public health systems. Her career has focused on immigrant, refugee, and indigenous women and girls' health issues. Dr. Castillo has served on several health equity committees, peer-review journals, and presented globally, with many publications on gender integration and health disparities. Early in her career, she served as a Maternal Health Specialist in Turkmenistan, Morocco, and Mali with the US Peace Corps.

Theresa is excited to bring her expertise to HealthRight's work, noting "HealthRight's commitment to building sustainable, healthy communities among marginalized populations is truly unique among NGOs. I am eager to join the staff and to work toward securing women and children's rights to health globally."

Theresa holds a master's and doctoral degree in Public Health Education from Columbia University.
