Updated 1967 Grammy Award Winning Song, Winchester Cathedral, To Stream Worldwide
Baltimore Net Radio will broadcast the newly updated version of the 1966 classic contemporary hit, Winchester Cathedral, written by one of England's most prolific songwriters and producers, Geoff Stephens.
Fifty years ago, British songwriter Geoff Stephens won a Grammy Award for his global multi-million seller "Winchester Cathedral". The Right Reverend James Atwell, Dean of this outstanding cathedral, asked Geoff if he could possibly tweak the lyrics so that instead of its original line "you're bringing me down" it could, perhaps, contain something a little more uplifting, and provide a message of hope. Geoff did better than that - he wrote an entire set of new lyrics to both celebrate the 50th anniversary and add weight to the Cathedral's restoration appeal. In the Dean's own words "I was absolutely stunned. I didn't dare think he would be so generous. Now, instead of bringing one down, the Cathedral's beautiful bells are sending a message all over the world. His words are absolutely fantastic!"
Geoff personally attended the recording of this 50th anniversary edition of his song which was actually recorded in the Cathedral itself. It was arranged by Andrew Lumsden, whose piano is to be heard accompanying the Cathedral's Boy Choristers.
In addition, Baltimore Net Radio's on air personality, Ron Roberts from the United Kingdom, will host a special one-hour broadcast on Monday, March 28th, 2016 at 3:00 PM NYT of "In The Spotlight" with Geoff Stephens: A Return To Winchester Cathedral. Roberts' program will include interviews with both the Right Revd. James Atwell and Geoff Stephens and will of course, feature the newly released Winchester Cathedral.
Ron Roberts, who has recently published his first novel, Nights of the Turntable, hosts numerous special programs for Baltimore Net Radio in addition to his monthly broadcasts spotlighting English songwriter, musician, arranger and orchestra leader, Les Reed and four-time Grammy award winner, Vikki Carr.
