PALM HARBOR, Fla. - March 10, 2016 - PRLog -- Sophia's Travel, Winner of the 2016 Travvy Gold Award for Best Small Retail Travel Agency, announces a new 25th Anniversary Independence tour to the country of Moldova, the "other" Romanian-speaking nation, on the border of Romania (southwest), Transnistria (northeast), and Ukraine (north and south). The tour will also visit Romania and Transnistria (a Romanian-speaking part of Russia). For those travelers seeking something new and different, this tour is it!

Travelers will have the chance to experience the historical, cultural, culinary, and political connections between the three Romanian-speaking regions of Eastern Europe, while celebrating Moldova's 25 years of Independence from the former Soviet Union.

The momentous Moldova Independence Day celebration will be commemorated with an open-air festival, including fireworks, traditional dress, music, dance, food and handicrafts demonstrated and for sale.

Moldova was created on August 1939, when the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed a treaty in Moscow. Today, Moldovia has become very modern, but adjacent Transnistria offers the experience of a more "bygone," former Soviet way of life. Daily life in the region of Transnistria connects Moldova with its past as the people move toward the future. Says Sophia Kulich, owner of Sophia's Travel, who herself hails from the former Soviet Union, "This is a fascinating look at a part of Europe with rich culture that most Americans do not normally consider or even know about, and it can be experienced NOW at a turning point in its history."

The ideal dates are August 19-September 1, with the Independence Day celebrations taking place on August 27, 2016. However, the tour is a customizable, private tour based upon two persons traveling. Thus, dates and itinerary can be adjusted based upon preference.

The tour visits Romania in addition to Moldova and Transnistria, but the highlights in Moldova are the following, with a special emphasis on the monasteries and wines!

*   Cipriana Monastery (15th C), located amongst breathtaking rolling hills, it is one the oldest monasteries in the country.

*   Chisinauthe town

*   Dubasari Vermouth and Kosiceski Cognac factory
, where participants will be invited to discover the ingredients of these drinks. (During the Soviet period, Buchetul Moldovei wine was one of the most popular on the market. This vermouth - a flavored, fortified local wine - contains infusions of more than 20 types of plants.)

*   Independence Day celebrations, including open air festival in Chisinau, with dancing, live concerts by Moldovan and international artists, costumed national historic dress, handicrafts, traditional foods, fireworks.

*   Chisinau (Russian version "Kishinev"), the Moldovan capital, was razed to the ground during WWII and further destroyed during the earthquake of 1940. However, it never lost its charm or soul - despite the best efforts of Soviet authorities who tried to rebuild it as yet another gray, socialist city.

*  Jewish History, Ethnography, Archaeology, and early 20th C Architecture of Chisinau

*   Krikova underground wine galleries
: 80 meters deep, over 2 million bottles of Milestii Mici (in the Guinness Book of World Records), the largest network of caves ever dug by man.

*   Streets (130 acres) with wine-related names.

*   The oldest remaining bottle of Moldovan wine (1902)

*   Curchi monastery (1810)

*   Orheiul Vechi's
40,000-year-old natural amphitheater, as well as its caves, ancient fortifications, stone monasteries, and living and passed monks and hermits: ancient civilizations, magnificent scenery.

*   Trebujeni village: Its wines (Chateau Vartely), scenery, and local peasant cuisine.
