Powerful Documentary Initiates Nationwide Grassroots Campaign “American Street Kid: The Dollar Project” Raising $1 Million for Homeless Youth

LOS ANGELES - March 9, 2016 - PRLog -- “American Street Kid: The Dollar Project” has kicked off with a groundswell of grassroots support.  The 60-day nationwide campaign hopes to raise $1 from as many as 1 million people to raise awareness and build programs for homeless youth.

After the death of two teenage girls who were living on the streets, Director, Michael Leoni set out on a mission to raise awareness for homeless youth.   As Leoni began filming a documentary, he became deeply involved in the struggles of the kids he met.  And he quickly realized that he couldn’t remain an observer; every day is a matter of life or death and he was determined to get the kids off the streets

The 7-year journey of making the documentary (American Street Kid) inspired the creation of Spare Some Change, a nonprofit committed to a nationwide movement of awareness and building programs for youth that inspire, empower and heal.   With almost 2 million kids on the street, America has a homeless youth problem comparable to some of the world’s poorest nations.  Spare Some Change is dedicated to changing that by building programs for youth and producing a consistent stream of media to raise the nation’s awareness of this epidemic.

The ultimate goal of The Dollar Project is to expand the Spare Some Change Mentoring Program across the country and get American Street Kid on a national tour of high schools, colleges, outreach centers, ending in Washington DC.

The Dollar Project has produced a campaign video which can be viewed here:

In praise of the film, former Los Angeles Times film critic Kevin Thomas said:  “I found American Street Kid to be raw, poignant and ultimately exultant.  It was a compelling experience and I highly recommend it.”

Hollywood is getting behind this film and its inspirational message.  Support from celebs like Pauley Perrette, Paul Bettany, Rosie O’Donnell, and Maroon 5 along with Warner Brothers, Sony, Ignition Creative and BLT has bolstered the campaign.
