Reliance Entertainment, Phantom films join hands to adapt ‘La Famille Belier’s

NEW DELHI - March 8, 2016 - PRLog -- Anil Ambani-led Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films will team up for French film, ‘La Famille Belier’s Indian adaptation. The premise of the film is about a girl, born into a family of deaf and mutes, who wants to become a singer.

Eric Lartigau was behind the lens for the original which released in 2014 and was received acclaim among critic circuits. The lead character is shown as a girl who is the sole point of contact between her family and the outside world, but faces a dilemma when urged to pursue her singing career in Paris. Victoria Bedos, Stanislas Carre de Marlberg, Lartigau and Thomas Bidegain wrote the screenplay and Bollywood indie icon Anurag Kashyap, a vocal fan of French cinema, is writing the script for the Indian version, which is already in pre-production.

Kashyap said revealing his admiration for the film, "'La Famille Belier' is a great story to work on. I really liked the film and feel that with appropriate changes in sensibilities and the tone, it will become a very interesting story for our audiences."

Vikas Bahl will be developing the subject into multiple languages and said it’s necessary so that the film can reach out to a larger audience, "'La Famille Belier', at heart, is a story about love and compassion for one's family. We feel it is a beautiful story that will resonate with Indian sensibilities and culture, and we want to develop it in multiple languages, so that we reach out to as big an audience as possible."


Reliance Entertainment and its global distribution reach would help achieve that goal. Its recent global productions have met critical and commercial success worldwide. The highlight was ‘Bridge of Spies,’ its co-production with legendary Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks studios received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

'La Famille Belier' won Cesar Awards 2015 in the category of Most Promising Actress (Louane Emera), besides nominations for Best Film, Best Actress (Karin Viard), Best Actor (Francois Damiens) and Best Supporting Actor (Eric Elmosnino). Other than nominations in the European Film Awards and Globes de Cristal Awards, it also received the prize for the Best Actress and Most Promising Young Actress in Lumiere Awards in 2015.

The original French film is co-produced by Jerico and Mars Films among others.
