SCPA Workshop: How To Help Kids Cope with Anxiety

Young children who experience anxiety are in need of appropriate treatment. This workshop will help mental health professionals recognize and treat anxiety in young children.
 
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. - March 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Dr. Deena  Abbe will discuss some of the causes of anxiety in young children and will explore some co-morbid conditions, such as ADHD and depression, and how they are likely to present in young children. She will also discuss developmentally appropriate strategies to use to help young children work through their uncomfortable and anxious feelings.

Deena Abbe, PhD, is recognized as a leading clinical psychologist specializing in infants and children. Her areas of expertise include ADHD, Tourette's Syndrome, Autism, Social Phobias, and Aggression.

Dr. Abbe has served as a school psychologist for the Northport School District School on Long Island. She is currently affiliated with O'Connell, Selig and Associates, Island Therapies, and other Long Island early intervention agencies.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Abbe has assessed children for services both within and outside of the district for the Committee on Preschool Education and Suffolk and Nassau County Early Intervention. Other responsibilities include supervising special education professionals, consulting to parents and teachers in the origination and implementation of behavioral intervention plans, IFSP Plans, IEPs, and administering and interpreting full evaluations for children between the ages of one and thirteen who suffer from various developmental disabilities.

She has served as a panelist at notable events including topics on Women in Psychology, Behavioral Concerns in Early and Middle Childhood, and Early Childhood Behaviors.

Dr. Abbe maintains affiliations with the Association for Behavior and Cognitive Therapy, the American Psychological Association, the New York State Psychology Association where she was co-founder of the CBT division and is a current Council Representative of that division. She also serves as the current President of the Suffolk County Psychological Association.
